PRESS RELEASE: RESTRICTED ACCESS TO THE FIRE HALL, BULK WATER STATION AND 91 MAIN STREET, KAGAWONG

PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release

November 11, 2022 2:00 p.m.

RESTRICTED ACCESS TO THE FIRE HALL, BULK WATER STATION AND 91 MAIN STREET, KAGAWONG

Billings, ON:  During the extensive renovation project to the Kagawong Fire Hall, the Township has been made aware of a structural integrity concern with the south wall of the Fire Hall.

The Township’s consulting engineer brought in their senior structural engineer who has assessed the building. The paramount concern is safety both for people working on the site, and for the general public, so immediate steps include continued securement of the site. The engineering consultants will work with the general contractor to produce options for the Township to consider for moving forward with the renovation.

As a result, the entire area surrounding the Fire Hall and 91 Main Street, Kagawong have been fenced off to the public.

Mayor Ian Anderson stated “We understand the concern and are in full agreement with the necessity to restrict access to the area, our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our community.”

The bulk water station will be unavailable to the public until further notice.  Water is available at the Public Works Garage with a hose next to the man door as well as between the two truck bays.  We request when accessing the water at the Public Works Garage that you do not block the bay entrances or leave your vehicle unattended.

Further information will be provided when it is available.
