Mayor’s Message on COVID-19 – June 23, 2020

Hello everyone, week 14 for my messages.

The province has now announced Stage 2 reopening in all areas except for Windsor-Essex. Reported new cases yesterday were 161. Overall, Ontario now stands at 33,798 total cases with 28,933 resolved and 2,609 deaths. In Canada we are now at 101,637 with 64,334 recovered and 8,436 deaths.

The statistics to the south of our country are not encouraging. Now almost half of the states are reporting an escalation of new infections. It should serve as a reminder that this pandemic is far from over and that a rapid return to doing things as we once did will have consequences.

Within our township, work will begin on our Small Craft Harbour the week of June 29. Please be cautious in this area as heavy equipment and materials are being moved to the site.
The RFP for engineering work for the Main Street hill reconstruction has been released. This is the first step to deal with a number of chronic issues on this section of road within our municipality.

Lastly, Public Health Sudbury and Districts had a long stretch with no new reported COVID-19 cases, however, in the last few days 3 new cases have been reported in the Greater Sudbury area. While this is not unexpected, it serves as a reminder that this virus is still a concern and we all need to remain vigilant and continue to make all efforts to conduct ourselves safely.

Thank you,
Ian
