Mayor’s Message on COVID-19 – June 30, 2020

Hello everyone, week 15 for my messages.

The provincial number of new cases continues to lower around the 200 mark, yesterday was 257.

Ontario is now at 35,168 with 30,196 resolved and 2,665 deaths.  Worldwide, some grim milestones with more than 10 million cases and over 500,000 deaths.

With a potential vaccine still a long way off, the only practical way to slow down this pandemic is for widespread personal responsibility to follow the guidelines that have proven to work.

Today, in the City of Toronto, Council will be voting on the question of making wearing of face coverings mandatory in closed public settings (indoor).  A number of other cities in the GTA are considering this as well.

There is ample evidence now from near and far to clearly demonstrate that returning to normal public interactions does not work, if the virus is still present.

Bridal Veil Falls continues to be a challenge with many people ignoring the signage and barricades of physical distancing.  Of a bigger concern to me is the verbal abuse from a few, directed at staff who have asked these people to follow the rules.

Within our township, Council will be awarding the tender for the engineering of our Main Street hill project very soon, with the physical construction work tentatively planned for the summer of 2021.

Our summer is upon us, even with the new normal, we can find a way to do the most of what we have done in the past, at least in the great outdoors!

Thank You,

Ian
